The short answer
Lobuche East rises above Lobuche village on the Everest Base Camp trail, so it is easy to add to a Base Camp trek. The route goes from a rocky base camp up to a high camp, then climbs mixed ground, a steep ice section and a narrow summit ridge. It is steeper and more exposed than Mera or Island Peak.
It suits climbers who have done a six-thousander or have solid ice and fixed-rope skills. The view across to Nuptse, Lhotse, Everest and Ama Dablam is the reward. Wind and cold on the ridge can be severe.
