The short answer
The Khumbu holds several popular peaks. Mera Peak (about 6,476 m) is often called the easiest of the higher ones, with a glaciated but gentle climb. Island Peak or Imja Tse (about 6,189 m) has a steep headwall near the top. Lobuche East (about 6,119 m) is more technical, Pokalde (about 5,806 m) is a shorter acclimatisation climb, and Kyajo Ri (about 6,186 m) is a quieter, steeper objective.
Mera is usually reached from Lukla via the Hinku valley, while the others start from the Everest Base Camp trail. Some travellers combine a peak with Everest Base Camp or the Three Passes for acclimatisation.
