The short answer
Sankhu is an old Newar town on the old trade route towards Tibet, to the north-east of Kathmandu. Above it, a staircase climbs to the Bajra Jogini temple complex, one of the valley's important shrines to the goddess in her tantric Buddhist form. The setting is forested and quiet outside festival times.
It can be combined with a hike toward Nagarkot or with a visit to Changu Narayan. Go with a local guide who can explain the shrine and the town's layout. Wear shoes suitable for steps and bring water.
