The short answer
Changu Narayan is the oldest-known temple site in the valley, with a Vishnu temple whose carved stone pillars, inscriptions and metal figures date back many centuries. The village on the hilltop has traditional Newar houses and craft shops.
It is a quiet half-day: reach it from Bhaktapur by road, spend an hour on the temple and walk the village lanes. It also makes a pleasant end to a Nagarkot walk.
