The short answer
Kanchenjunga, at about 8,586 m the third highest mountain in the world, sits on the Nepal-India border in the far east. The trek has two routes: north base camp (Pangpema, about 5,100 m) and south base camp (Oktang, about 4,700 m), which many trekkers combine in one long journey of roughly three weeks. It is a restricted area, so permits and a licensed operator are required.
It is one of the most remote and least crowded major treks in Nepal, with rhododendron forest, Limbu and Sherpa villages and glacier views. Lodges are simple and some sections are camping only.
