The short answer
The Tamur and the Arun are eastern expedition rivers. The Tamur run begins with a flight to Biratnagar, a drive to Basantapur, and a four-day trek over a pass with views of Kanchenjunga and Makalu to the put-in, then several days on big-volume Class IV to V water to Chatara. The Arun starts with a flight to Tumlingtar and a trek to a river camp, then a few days of rafting.
These trips are for adventurous travellers who like trekking and rafting together and accept remote camping. They cost more days and need fit, experienced participants. They are often combined with Chitwan at the end or with a Kanchenjunga trek.
