How it works

  1. Sarangkot sunriseTaxi up in the dark. At first light you see the full Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri and the Machhapuchhre peak.
  2. Phewa Lake and Tal BarahiRow to the island temple of Barahi, then slowly across. Go early or late, and avoid midday heat.
  3. World Peace PagodaA white stupa on a ridge above the lake, reached by boat and a 40-minute climb or by road. The sunset view is superb.
  4. Davis Falls and Gupteshwor CaveA waterfall that vanishes underground, and a Shiva cave across the road. Allow an hour.
  5. International Mountain MuseumA calm hour on Himalayan climbing history and mountain cultures.

A balanced three-day plan

Day one: Sarangkot sunrise, breakfast, then a slow afternoon on the lake with a boat ride to the Tal Barahi temple. Day two: World Peace Pagoda in the morning, the mountain museum or a spa in the afternoon. Day three: Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave and a village or a lakeside walk. This mix gives you views, culture and rest.

Add paragliding, zipline or ultralight flights if you want adventure, and book through a licensed operator.

Quiet things that people remember

A sunset from the lake, a walk through Old Bazaar, or a morning stroll along the lakeside path are low-cost and often become the favourite moments. Look for cafes with a lake view and take time to watch the light change on the peaks.

See paragliding safety before booking flights.

Insider tip

Phewa Lake at 6 a.m. is the best free thing in Pokhara. Boats are few, mist lies on the water and the peaks arrive slowly.

Avoid this

Do not cram every sight into one day. Two sights a day leaves room for the lake.
