Is Kirtipur worth a visit?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Kirtipur sits on a ridge south-west of Kathmandu and was once an independent Newar kingdom that held out against the Gorkhali conquest. Today it is a hill town of brick lanes, a Bagh Bhairab temple, a Buddhist stupa and a university campus that gives it a lively edge.

It is quick to reach and pairs well with Chovar, where the Chobhar Gorge cuts through the hills and a small temple stands above the Bagmati. Together they make a calm morning that shows the valley's edge, not its centre.
