What is Thimi known for?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Thimi is the pottery town of the valley, between Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Potters shape clay on wheels outside their houses and set rows of pots out to dry in sunny courtyards, and the town is also known for papier-mache masks used in festivals.

It is an easy add-on to a Bhaktapur day. You can watch a potter at work, try a wheel for a small fee, and see the Balkumari temple, which anchors the old centre. Visit in dry weather, when pots are laid out in the open.
