The short answer
Jal Binayak is a small shrine to Ganesh beside the Bagmati at the Chobhar Gorge, where the valley's water is said to have drained out of an ancient lake. Locals believe the gorge was cut by the bodhisattva Manjushri, which is why the site matters to both Hindu and Buddhist visitors.
It is a short stop, usually combined with Kirtipur. The gorge is narrow and rocky, and a small cave nearby adds some atmosphere. Do not expect large crowds or facilities, and keep to the paths.
