What is a good 5-day Nepal itinerary?

The short answer

Five days fits the valley plus one more place. A classic plan is two days in Kathmandu, a day for Bhaktapur or Patan, then Pokhara for two days by flight or road. Alternatively, swap Pokhara for Chitwan if animals matter more than lakes.

Because road legs are long, a 25-minute flight to Pokhara gives you an extra day of sightseeing. If you travel by road, accept that day three is largely a travel day.

The valley plus one

Two days in Kathmandu, one day in Bhaktapur or Patan, and two days in Pokhara is the classic five-day plan. Flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara keep travel short. Alternatively, swap Pokhara for Chitwan.

Both plans work; choose by interest, mountain views or wildlife.

Practical notes

Allow time for check-in and rest. Use mornings for sights and afternoons for slower activity. Book hotels early for autumn.

Insider tip

Fly one way and drive the other if you want both speed and scenery.

Avoid this

Do not add a third region in five days.
