The short answer
Sun is stronger at height because there is less air to filter it, and snow and bright rock reflect it back. Use high-protection sun cream on exposed skin including ears and under the chin, lip balm with sun protection, a hat with a brim, and sunglasses that wrap or have side protection. Even on cloudy days, exposure adds up.
Cold needs layers you can add and remove, warm hands, feet and head, and dry socks. Keep your extremities warm, eat and drink regularly, and tell your guide if fingers or toes go numb or turn pale. Do not wait until you are shivering to add a layer.
