Which meditation courses and centres are available?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Nepal has Buddhist monasteries that run courses for foreigners, such as at Kopan near Boudhanath, and Vipassana centres that teach a silent course over ten days. There are also meditation spaces linked to other teachers and traditions in and around Kathmandu, and monasteries in the Himalayan foothills.

Courses differ in length, rules and cost, and some require silence, early starts and no phone. Read the schedule and rules before you register, and arrive with realistic expectations. A one-day introduction can be a good first step. Check availability well in advance, since popular courses fill up.
