The short answer
The Royal Trek is a gentle three to four day walk in the foothills north of Pokhara. It is named after a visit by a royal party in the early 1980s, and it stays low, with the highest point under about 2,000 metres, so altitude is not a concern. The route links hill villages, terraced fields and forest, with Annapurna and Machhapuchhre views on clear days.
It suits families, beginners and anyone who wants a village-focused walk rather than snow views. You normally need the Annapurna Conservation Area entry permit, and some operators also ask for trekker registration. Guesthouses and homestays are simple but friendly, and the pace is relaxed enough for children and older walkers with reasonable fitness.
