What is the honey hunting tradition near Ghalegaun and Ghanpokhara?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Honey hunters in this part of Lamjung collect honey from the huge nests of wild cliff bees. Men hang from cliffs on ropes and bamboo ladders and use smoke to move the bees before cutting the combs. The harvest is seasonal, with the main collections reported in spring and again in autumn.

Because it depends on the bees and the weather, a hunt cannot be promised on a given day. Treat it as something you may be lucky to see, not a show. Ask your guide and the local committee for the current season and rules, follow instructions about distance and safety, and respect that this is a livelihood and a ritual.
