The short answer
The Sun Koshi, often called the river of gold, is one of Nepal's great multi-day rafting expeditions. The full trip runs about nine days from Dolalghat to Chatara, through gorges, sandy beaches, jungle corridors and remote villages, finishing near the meeting of the Sun Koshi, Arun and Tamur.
There are also shorter sections: a half-day gentle float from Balephi to Dolalghat, and a one-day Class III option. The longer run is best after the monsoon when the river is big and bouncy but still rafted by experts. Plan to be self-sufficient, since there are no towns for days. Check current water levels and conditions with the operator.
