The short answer
The Kali Gandaki trip runs between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs in a three-day run from the Pokhara side. The put-in is a few hours from Pokhara, and the first day has a series of Class III to IV rapids, then easier water and wider valleys. Villages and temples line the banks, and the river passes holy confluences such as the one at Modi Beni.
The river is known for scenery and culture as much as for rapids, and birds along the banks are a bonus. It suits rafters with a little experience. Check the water level and road access with your operator, because access roads can change from year to year.
