Where and how should I exchange money?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Use licensed money changers, banks and hotel desks, and ask for a receipt. Rates differ a little between shops, so compare two before changing a larger amount. Airport counters are convenient but often give weaker rates than city changers.

ATMs are common in cities and many towns, but not on high trails, so carry enough cash for a trek. Keep small notes for tips, tea and taxis.
