Where are the best places to take photographs in Nepal?

The short answer

The richest single area for a photographer is the Kathmandu Valley, where Bhaktapur's brick squares, Boudhanath's prayer wheels, Pashupatinath's riverside rituals and Patan's carved windows sit within an hour of each other. For landscapes, Pokhara's lake reflections, the Annapurna skyline from Sarangkot, the Everest region around Namche, and the Kali Gandaki gorge give very different moods.

Wildlife photographers favour Chitwan, Bardia and Koshi Tappu, while those who like villages and portraits do well in Bandipur, Tansen, Marpha and Tharu settlements near the jungle parks. Match place to light: valleys for soft morning mist, ridges for sunrise, lakes for calm dawn and dusk.
