Where can I see stars and the Milky Way in Nepal?

The short answer

Dark skies need distance from city lights, dry air and a clear night. Good options include high villages in the Annapurna and Khumbu regions, Mustang, the far west plateau of Khaptad, and ridge hotels away from the city glow such as parts of Nagarkot and Bandipur. The post-monsoon months of October to November and the dry winter give the best clarity.

Plan for cold. Wear a warm jacket, bring a tripod and, if you photograph, use a wide lens with a fast aperture. Moonlight washes out the Milky Way, so check the moon phase and aim for nights around the new moon.
