The short answer
Strong sun, cold nights and sudden weather. Layers, windproofing, sturdy broken-in shoes, sun protection and personal medicines are the essentials.

- Windproof jacket
- Feet
- Broken-in shoes, warm socks
- Skin
- Sunscreen and lip balm
How it works
- Layer for a wide temperature rangeDays can be warm in the sun and nights fall below freezing. Pack thermals, a fleece, a down jacket and a windproof shell, so you can adjust through the day.
- Protect feet and handsWear broken-in boots with warm socks and carry gloves, a hat and a buff. New boots on a three-day circuit cause blisters you cannot fix on the trail.
- Protect skin and eyesAt altitude, UV is intense. Use high-SPF sunscreen, lip balm, and sunglasses with side protection.
- Bring your own essentialsPersonal medicines, a basic first-aid kit, water purification tablets and a power bank. Supplies are limited past the border.
A packing logic that works
Think in layers: base, insulation, windproof shell. Add warm hats, gloves, sun protection and good socks. Use a sleeping bag rated for cold nights if the operator does not provide one. A trekking pole can help on the kora.
Carry a small first-aid kit, water purification, snacks and a power bank. Supplies are limited past the border.
What to avoid
Do not bring new boots. Do not overpack: baggage limits and handling make heavy bags a burden. Avoid cotton as your main layer since it stays wet and cold.
Insider tip
Your operator will give a trip-specific list. Trust it over a generic one.
Avoid this
Do not pack new boots you have not walked in.

How cold are the nights?
Often below freezing even in summer, especially at Dirapuk and Zutulpuk during the circuit. A good sleeping layer matters.
