The short answer
Around Lumbini, the Buddha's birthplace, there are dozens of archaeological sites in the nearby districts. A commonly followed circuit links Tilaurakot, Kudan, Gotihawa, Niglihawa, Sagarhawa, Araurakot, Devadaha and Ramagrama. These sites are connected with the Buddha's family, earlier Buddhas and the relics stupa, and they add history to a Lumbini visit.
Most of the sites are low brick mounds, ponds and fragments of pillars, so a guide makes a big difference. Plan a full day for the western group (Tilaurakot to Niglihawa) and half a day for Devadaha and Ramagrama. Roads are rural, so allow time and take water.
