Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu & Local Sightseeing

Upon arrival, the Kathmandu Airport, meet our tour representative who will greet you with a warm welcome. Thereafter, get comfortably transferred to the pre-decided to the hotel. Complete the check-in formalities and get ready for a half day sightseeing tour. Today, you will visit the Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath.

Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site's List, the Pashupatinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Stretching on both sides of the Bagmati River, the shrine flaunts wood carvings of the finest quality, gilded roof and four sides covered in silver.

The Boudhanath Stupa has stood as a beacon of Buddhist belief for hundreds of years. One of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world keeps an eye out in every direction. Also, the stupa towers over the surrounding town as a giant mandala of peace and beauty.

Once done with the half-day trip, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Kathmandu - Pokhara (Approx. 6-7 hours' drive)

Start the day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Post this, get ready for an exciting road trip to Pokhara which spans for over 6-7 hours under the normal conditions. After reaching, check-in at the hotel and enjoy the refreshment provided. Later on, proceed for an excursion to Pokhara city.

Hailed as Nepal's best adventure and leisure city, Pokhara is a gateway to the Annapurna Circuit, a famous trail in the Himalayas. Owing to a number of exciting options, the city is a delight for the travelers and trekkers alike. Spellbinding Tal Barahi Temple, scenic Phewa Lake and the International Mountain Museum are some of the notable attractions in the town.

After indulging in a number of exciting options available and enjoying the natural setting of the fishtail mountain, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Pokhara - Jomsom by Air - Drive to Muktinath

On day 3 of the Muktinath Pashupatinath Darshan Yatra, get comfortably transferred to the Pokhara domestic airport early in the morning. From here, catch a flight to Jomsom. Upon arrival, you will be escorted to one of our listed hotels. Extending over both the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, Jomsom is remarkably beautiful. With the soaring peaks of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri forming a backdrop, the town presents a sight to behold.

After check-in at the hotel, brace yourself for an enthralling jeep ride to the Muktinath Temple. A key point to note about the ride is that it is on sharing basis on a queue basis. The term "Mukti" means salvation and devotees visit this temple in the hope for salvation. As per common beliefs, pilgrims who visit Muktinath are able to gain Karma merit in a number of ways.

Once done with the sightseeing tour, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Jomsom - Pokhara by Air

Today, in the morning board a flight to Pokhara. Upon arrival, our driver will guide you towards the hotel. After reaching, complete the check-in formalities and spend rest of the day leisurely. Indulge in a number of activities of your interests. Explore the nearby surroundings. Savor delicious food. Go out and create memories of a lifetime. Or else, sit back and soak in the comforts of the hotel.

Day 5: Pokhara - Kathmandu (Approx. 6-7 Hours' Drive)

Reach Kathmandu by road after savoring scrumptious breakfast. On reaching, check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure. Go for exploring the best places to visit in Kathmandu on your own.

Day 6: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Departure

On the last day of the tour, satiate your hunger with delicious breakfast. This is followed by half day excursion to Kathmandu. Today you will be exploring places namely the Kathmandu Durbar Square and the Swayambhunath Stupa.

A perfect example of the conventional architecture and engineering, Kathmandu's Durbar Square has welcomed and witnessed one king after the other. The regal Darbar Square is often hailed as the heart that houses all the traditions of the old Kathmandu. The Hanuman Dhoka complex is a fascinating complex and despite being damaged remains the center of attraction. When here, don't forget to get a glimpse of the Kumari, the little Goddess.

Also known as the 'Monkey Temple', the Swayambhunath Stupa is perched on a hill. Overlooking the valley, the stupa has stood as the hallmark of harmony and faith for centuries. The sacred site is one of the holiest Buddhist Chaityas in Nepal.

How to Travel to Muktinath Temple?

Accessible by both Air and Land. Due to the bad road conditions, most of the guests prefer to travel by air between Pokhara and Jomsom.

Where is the Muktinath Temple Situated?

Muktinath temple is situated in the Lower Mustang region of Nepal. It is situated 22 kilometers far from Jomsom and 175 Kilometers far from Pokhara.

Which is the best time for Muktinath Tour?

Muktinath Tour can be done throughout the year but the best time is from March to May and from September to November.

There is about 114 staircase to climb to reach the temple. So in general you have to cover around 300 staircases to cover all the temples/ monuments /sightseeing locations in the Muktinath Temple Region. In case if someone not able to climb the staircases they can use the porter service.

Shaligrams (Shaligram Shila) is a sacred stone found in the river beds of the Gandaki river in the Muktinath Region of Nepal. Yes, you can visit the site of the Nilkanth Varni in the Muktinath Region and offer the puja and do the Meditation. Guest usually visit after performing Holy bath, Puja, and Meditation in the Muktinath Temple.

What things to carry during Muktinath Tour?

You don't need any such special items for this trip. You can carry your luggage depending upon the month you travel. Jomsom is a windy place so whichever month you travel you need to carry windsheeter style jacket for Jomsom Muktinath area. Other things it is as normal as in other normal trip.

How many days trip it is?

Normally Muktinath tour can be done in minimum 4 days but we suggest our client to plan minimum 6 days so that they can travel without any rush. By Helicopter, it can be done within 4 to 5 hrs.

How is the Medical Facility in Jomsom Muktinath Region?

There is a small hospital available at Jomsom for a normal treatment. If anything serious happens Pokhara is the nearest city for better medical treatment.

What will be done in case of Emergency?

Helicopter service will be available from Kathmandu or Pokhara in case of emergency rescue.

Do we need any special permits for Muktinath Tour?

Yes, permit is compulsory for Muktinath Tour. All the travelers need two permit. One is Annapurna Conservation area permit and another is TIMS card. You need to hire your local tour operator of Nepal for the same beforehand.

How is the road condition of Muktinath?

The Land journey is long, uncomfortable, and hazardous in places, especially if there has been any rain. The Nepal Government has undertaken a lot of upgrade works in most parts of the road connecting the Pokhara and Muktinath Temple Regions. Roads connecting Pokhara with Beni and Kagbeni with Muktinath Region are in good condition. From Beni, it's about a 5-hour drive to Jomsom via Tatopani, Ghasa, Lete, Kobang, and Marpha. It's all the way rough road. Be aware that landslides can block the road at any time of year, but particularly during the monsoon.

What type of vehicle do you provide to travel from Gorakhpur?

We provide vehicles based on group size. Some vehicles that we use are Toyota Innova, Tata Sumo, Tempo Traveler, Mahindra Scorpio, Mini Bus, and Regular Bus. But from Pokhara Onwards you will be provided with the Basic Jeep.

What's the difference between Muktinath Yatra from Gorakhpur and from Kathmandu?

From Kathmandu, we can arrange all flights, land or heli package but from Gorakhpur, you need to come to Pokhara or Bhairawaha by road and then onwards, we can arrange as per the choice (land or air).

What is the chance of flight cancellation if I travel to Jomsom by flight from Pokhara?

Most of the time Pokhara – Jomsom flight got canceled due to bad weather in Jomsom Region. In case the flight between Pokhara and Jomsom does not fly due to the bad weather you have the following options:-

Case 1: Flight does not fly from Pokhara to Jomsom
-- Try next-day flight if possible.
-- Muktinath Darshan by Drive (Jeep).
-- Muktinath Darshan by Helicopter.
-- Skip Muktinath Darshan and do sightseeing in Nepal as per the choice.

Case 2: Flight does not fly from Jomsom to Pokhara
-- Drive (Jeep) back to Pokhara.
-- Use a Helicopter to return back to Pokhara.

Can I visit Muktinath Temple by bus?

Yes, There are buses from Kathamndu and Pokhara both.

Kathmandu to Jomsom Bus: There are overnight buses that depart every day at 2 pm directly from Kathmandu Bus Station to Jomsom. You will reach the next day at 10 am in Jomsom. Then, a local sharing jeep drives up to the temple for an hour and a half.

Pokhara to Jomsom Bus: There are daily buses that depart every day at 7 AM to Jomsom. You will reach the same day at 4 PM in Jomsom. Then, the next day hires a local sharing jeep drives up to the temple for an hour and a half.

Can I do a Motorcycle (Bike) road trip to Jomsom and Muktinath?

Yes, tourists can take bikes to Muktinath. You can hire a bike in Kathmandu, Pokhara, or Jomsom as per the choice through one of the bike rental services in respective places. The road from Pokhara to Beni is in good shape. Once in Beni, it's a proper off-road ride with mud and water crossings. At Kalopani or Marpha the conditions improve. Once you get past Marpha the road is wide and fast, but still dusty. After Kagbeni the road is good all the way to Muktinath. It cost around $30++ to $50++ (USD) per day rental depending on the choice of the bike.

What is the minimum group size required to travel to Muktinath?

How high is Muktinath above sea level?

Muktinath Temple is situated at an altitude of 3710 meters (13,000 ft.) above sea level.

Is there any risk of altitude sickness?

Since Muktinath is located at a high altitude (3710m), one-night acclimatization at Jomsom is required before heading to the Temple. There is not any record that people got altitude sickness during 'Muktinath Tour' but it is always better to consult with your doctor first. In case of emergency, helicopter services are available to rescue. The guest who takes a helicopter from Pokhara or Kathmandu to Muktinath Temple directly may face altitude sickness problems.

What is the oxygen level at Muktinath Temple?

The levels vary considerably at different parts of the Jomsom and Muktinath Region. The oxygen level at Muktinath Temple is around 70 to 80% of that at sea level. Your blood oxygen at that level of oxygen in the air will be about 80 to 90%. It is advised to visit between 10 AM to 4 PM beyond that it would be difficult to breathe. Many of the Indian Devotees bring camphor with them and it is assumed that it helps in breathing at high altitude.

Is it advisable to stay in Muktinath temple?

If you do the acclimatization in Jomsom or nearby similar altitude regions for 1 to 2 days then you can stay in Muktinath Temple Area. But if you diretly fly from Pokhara to Jomsom then it's not advisable. It's always better to stay overnight in Jomsom for acclimatization and then drive to Muktinath Temple for the overnight stay. Basic Lodges and Tea house are available in Ranipauwa (Muktinath) for overnight stay.

Is there any age restriction?

There is no such age limit for "Muktinath Tour" unless you have been restricted from doing so by your medical doctor.
