The short answer
The southern parks of Chitwan, Bardia, Parsa and Shuklaphanta are Nepal's main habitats for large mammals. Chitwan is the best known for the one-horned rhino and also has tigers, while Bardia is valued for tigers and wild elephants in a quieter setting. Shuklaphanta has swamp deer, and Parsa has elephants and tigers in sal forest.
Sightings cannot be promised. Spend at least two or three nights, take early and late activities and listen to your guide. Winter and spring are the usual seasons; summer is hot and the monsoon brings flooding. Stay in a park-edge lodge with experienced naturalists.
