The short answer
Yes. Choose shorter drives, rest days, easy-access hotels and fewer steps. Avoid high altitude unless a doctor agrees.
Many older travellers enjoy Nepal's culture, lakes and wildlife at a relaxed pace. Planning is the key: choose comfort, keep days short and carry the right medicines.

How it works
- Keep driving days shortPlan no more than four to five hours on the road in a day, with a break every hour. Use flights for Kathmandu to Pokhara and for Jomsom.
- Choose accessible hotelsAsk about lifts, ground-floor rooms and the number of steps to the restaurant. Many heritage guesthouses have steep staircases.
- Keep altitude modestKathmandu (1,400 m), Pokhara (820 m), Chitwan and Lumbini are comfortable. For anything above about 3,000 m, see a doctor first.
Choosing places and pace
Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini are low-altitude and easy to reach, with good hotels. Use a private vehicle, a guide who knows the pace, and limit sightseeing to a morning and a lighter afternoon.
Choose hotels with lifts or ground-floor rooms where possible, and avoid sites with long staircases unless you are comfortable. Add rest days after long drives.
Health and high places
Talk to your doctor before you go, carry medicines and prescriptions, and check your travel insurance. If you plan Muktinath or other high places, ask for medical advice, plan slow days and consider a helicopter option.
Keep emergency contacts in your phone and on paper, and tell your guide about any health conditions. A calm, flexible plan makes the trip enjoyable for everyone.
Insider tip
Cities and the Terai are friendlier than the mountains.
Avoid this
Do not plan Muktinath or Kailash without medical advice.
