The short answer
Seven to ten days is a practical range for several major destinations without rushing. Fewer than five days forces you to choose one or two places.
Count the days you will spend moving, not only the days you spend looking. Hill roads are slow, and a day with a long drive is rarely a full sightseeing day.
Key facts
- 5 days
- Kathmandu plus Pokhara
- 7 to 10 days
- Add Chitwan and a hill stop
- 10 to 14 days
- Add Lumbini or Muktinath
How it works
- Count the true daysEach long transfer takes half a day or more. A five-day trip is about three days of sights, and a seven-day trip about five.
- Add buffersDomestic flights are delayed by cloud, and monsoon roads by landslides. Keep a spare day before an international departure.
- Prefer fewer placesThree places with two nights each beat six places with one.
How the days add up
With five days, you can see Kathmandu and Pokhara if you fly between them. With seven to ten days you add a jungle stay or a hill town, and with ten to fourteen you can include Lumbini or Muktinath.
Each extra day gives more than just another sight; it gives time to wander, rest and see the same place at different hours. The best moments are often unplanned.
Saving time without losing the trip
Use short flights where they save a long day, such as Kathmandu to Pokhara, and drive where the road itself is part of the pleasure. Stay two nights, not one, in the places you care most about.
If you are short of time, choose depth over breadth. A well-paced seven-day trip beats a rushed ten-day tour. Ask your planner to count travel hours as well as sights.
Insider tip
Travel days eat sightseeing time, so count them honestly.
Avoid this
Do not count flight and drive hours as free.
