How do you stay safe near waterfalls in Nepal?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Slippery rock, hidden currents and sudden rises in water cause most accidents at waterfalls. Stay behind rails, keep children close and never climb the wet edges for a photo. After heavy rain a calm stream can become a torrent within minutes, so move back if the water changes colour or you hear rumbling upstream.

Footwear matters more than fitness: shoes with grip and a rain jacket make a falls visit comfortable. Avoid swimming, and avoid walking below unstable cliffs where stones can fall after rain.
