The short answer
This is a two-day hill walk southwest of Kathmandu. A common start is Matatirtha, with the option of the Chandragiri cable car to the ridge near 2,300 metres, or a hike up through forest. From the top you can see the valley and a long line of Himalaya, then the trail descends to Chitlang, an old Newar village in Makwanpur district with narrow lanes and brick houses.
It is an easy to moderate walk and a good short add-on to a Kathmandu stay. Spend a night in Chitlang to enjoy the village in the early morning, then return by road. The cable car saves legs and time, but hiking up gives a calmer experience.
