The short answer
Rupaidiha in Uttar Pradesh faces Nepalgunj across the border, in the mid-western Terai. It is the usual start for Bardia National Park, which is about two hours from Nepalgunj by road, and for flights from Nepalgunj to Simikot and Jumla in the far west. Rail access on the Indian side is via nearby towns such as Nanpara, with road transfers from there.
Because Nepalgunj is far from Kathmandu, most travellers either fly onward or plan a wildlife and far-west itinerary rather than a long road trip.
