The short answer
The Tamang Heritage Trail is a village trail north of Kathmandu in Rasuwa, close to the Langtang area, through Tamang settlements with stone houses, prayer flags and a strong Tibetan Buddhist culture. Community lodges and homestays are used in villages such as Gatlang, Briddim and Brimdang.
The drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche takes most of a day, so plan at least a few days. Hot springs, monasteries and mountain views are the draw. It is a gentler alternative to the main Langtang valley trek. Because this region was badly affected by the 2015 earthquake, check the current trail and lodge conditions with your operator.
