The short answer
Nepal has rivers that fall from the Himalaya through gorges, forests and farmland to the Terai plains, so a single trip can cross several landscapes. Trips range from a half day on a gentle stretch to expeditions of more than a week with camping on sandy beaches. A guide steers and gives paddle commands, and everyone wears a lifejacket and helmet.
Rapids are graded from Class I (easy) to Class VI (too dangerous for rafting). Beginners and families choose Class II to III trips, while experienced paddlers look for Class IV and V. Water level changes with the season, so the same river can feel very different in different months. Raft only with a licensed operator that provides lifejackets, helmets, a trained guide and a safety briefing.
