The short answer
The most popular rafting windows are October to December and February to May, when water is warm enough and the weather is stable. The monsoon brings very high water on most rivers and is for experts, while winter is cold in the mountains. Always ask your operator which rivers are running well in your month.
Pack quick-dry shorts and a shirt, river sandals that strap on, a fleece for evenings, sun cream, a hat and sunglasses with a strap, a headlamp, a towel and a dry change. Operators provide lifejackets, helmets and waterproof bags. Leave valuables at the hotel.
