What plugs and voltage are used in Nepal, and how do I charge on trek?

The short answer

Nepal uses about 230 volts. Sockets vary, and you may see round-pin and other types, sometimes mixed in the same building. Carry a universal travel adapter and check that your chargers accept 230 volts, which most phone and camera chargers do. A power strip or a surge-protected adapter can help with unsteady supply.

On treks, lodges often have a charging point in the dining room or the rooms, usually for a separate charge and at the owner's discretion, and supply can be limited. Carry a power bank, keep devices warm in cold weather and bring a spare battery for your camera. Solar chargers help on longer routes.
