The short answer
Three days is a Kathmandu Valley trip and nothing more. Spend day one on the old city: Durbar Square, Swayambhunath and an evening in Thamel. Day two covers Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Patan or Bhaktapur. Day three can be a mountain flight at dawn, a short drive to Nagarkot, or a slow morning and an afternoon departure.
Do not add Pokhara or Chitwan to three days. The travel time eats the visit. If you have only three days and want mountains, choose the morning mountain flight; it gives the Himalaya without a trek.

Making three days feel full
Day one: Durbar Square, Swayambhunath and an evening wander in Thamel. Day two: Pashupatinath and Boudhanath, with Patan or Bhaktapur in the afternoon. Day three: a hill viewpoint at sunrise or a half-day trip, then departure.
This pace is brisk but achievable with a private car and a guide.
Adjusting the plan
If you land in the afternoon, begin with a short evening walk. If you leave late, add a morning at Patan. Skip anything that makes you feel rushed.
Insider tip
Keep one hotel for all three nights; moving wastes the little time you have.
Avoid this
Do not plan an early international flight after a mountain flight; weather can delay it.
