National Parks and Reserves · Permits and season

What is the best month to visit each national park?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

November to March for the Terai parks, March to May and October to November for the mountain parks, and April to May or September to November for Rara. The Terai is too hot in summer, and the mountains too wet.

Key facts

Chitwan, Bardia
Nov to Mar
Sagarmatha, Langtang
Mar to May, Oct to Nov
Rara
Apr to May, Sep to Nov
Shuklaphanta
Nov to Mar

Insider tip

Grass is burned or cut in January and February, which makes wildlife easier to see in the Terai.

Avoid this

Do not go to Chitwan in monsoon expecting the best sightings. Rivers rise and grass grows tall.
