What is Rupse Chhahara waterfall?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 2 min read

The short answer

Rupse Chhahara, also called Rupse Falls, is a roadside waterfall on the Kali Gandaki route between Beni and Tatopani, in the Myagdi area. The water drops beside the road in a steep gorge, and travellers on the Pokhara to Jomsom route often stop for photographs.

Visit in or just after the rains for the strongest flow. Take care on the road edge, as traffic is limited but the rock is wet and slippery. It fits well as a stop on a longer Jomsom or Muktinath drive.

A stop on the Kali Gandaki road

Rupse Chhahara is a waterfall that drops beside the road in a narrow gorge, and it is a popular photo stop on the way to Jomsom and Muktinath. The roar of water, spray and green cliffs make a striking contrast with the dry country further north.

It is at its fullest during and just after the monsoon, and smaller in the dry season. The stop usually takes only a few minutes, but it is a good moment to stretch your legs.

Visiting safely

Stay on the road edge or the viewing platform, keep away from wet rocks and the cliff edge, and watch for traffic. Landslides can affect the road in the rainy season, so check conditions with your driver.

Combine the stop with a tea break and a visit to Tatopani, known for its hot springs, if your route allows. Keep your camera dry in spray.

Insider tip

Stop on the way up, when light and energy are better.

Avoid this

Do not climb the wet rocks near the edge.
