The short answer
Muktinath sits at roughly 3,700 to 3,800 metres in the Kali Gandaki rain shadow, so it is dry, windy and cold for much of the year, even when the rest of Nepal is in monsoon. From March to May days are bright and cool with cold nights, and the road and flights are generally reliable. June to August is the lighter-rain period here compared with the rest of Nepal, which is why Muktinath is a popular monsoon-season pilgrimage, although clouds can delay flights.
September to November gives the clearest skies and the most comfortable days for walking. December to February is the coldest part of the year: nights are well below freezing, snow can close the road and some lodges shut. Wind rises in the afternoon almost every day, so plan the temple visit for the morning.

Reading the seasons
Because Muktinath sits in the rain shadow of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, it is far drier than the rest of Nepal, even in the monsoon. Autumn gives the clearest skies and the most comfortable days, and spring is bright with cold nights and strong afternoon wind. Winter is very cold, with snow possible and some lodges closed.
The wind in the Kali Gandaki valley usually rises in the afternoon, which affects flights and walking comfort. Mornings are calmer, which is why both pilgrims and pilots prefer to start early.
Planning around the weather
Choose your month by priority: autumn for comfort and clarity, spring for blossoms lower down, and the monsoon months if you want fewer crowds and a drier destination than Pokhara or Kathmandu. Keep a spare day for flight delays caused by wind or cloud.
Check conditions with your operator before you go, because the weather at Jomsom, Ranipauwa and the temple can differ. Pack layers and a windproof shell whatever the month.
Insider tip
Visit the temple in the morning; afternoon wind is strong and cold.
Avoid this
Do not trust a forecast for the whole valley; conditions change between Jomsom and Muktinath.
