The short answer
Jumla is the high-hill district town of Karnali and a starting point for Rara Lake, Sinja valley and treks toward Dolpo. It is known for its apples, rice fields and a clear mountain light. Jumla has a small airport used by flights from Nepalgunj.
The Karnali Highway links Surkhet, Kalikot, Jumla and further north, but it is long and demanding. Many visitors fly one way and take the road the other if time allows. Allow plenty of time, and check road and flight conditions before you book.
