What are the dos and don'ts on a pilgrimage such as Muktinath or Kailash?

The short answer

Do keep to the group schedule, drink water regularly, walk slowly and listen to your leader or guide. Carry your documents, personal medicines and a light rain layer. Do respect local customs and other pilgrims, and keep rituals calm and orderly.

Don't rush at altitude, skip meals, or ignore symptoms of altitude illness. Don't carry or leave rubbish at holy sites. Follow the dress rules of each place, and ask before photographing rituals. Your health, rest and attitude matter more than hurrying through the schedule.
