The short answer
The main ones are Rasuwagadhi to Kerung (Syabrubesi side), Kodari to Zhangmu (the old Friendship Bridge route, damaged in the 2015 earthquake), Hilsa to Purang (Humla) and Korala (Mustang). Tourist access is limited and changes by season, so confirm with a registered operator.

Understanding the crossings
Several crossing points exist along the long border with Tibet, including Rasuwagadhi to Kerung, the older Kodari to Zhangmu route, and western routes in Humla and Mustang. Their status, opening dates and tourist access change by season and by official decision.
Tourist access is limited and usually needs a group permit arranged by a registered operator. Individual entry is generally not allowed for Tibet travel.
Planning a crossing
Decide your purpose, whether Kailash, Lhasa or another route, and talk to a registered operator well in advance. Permits and visas take time and depend on group size and dates.
Check the season, carry your documents and keep your plan flexible, because closures and changes can occur at short notice. Ask us for current information before you plan.
Insider tip
Tibet travel needs a group permit; individual entry is not allowed.
Avoid this
Do not plan a crossing without a Tibet permit.
