How has Bardia changed from hunting ground to national park?

By Base Camp Tours, licensed Nepal travel agency (Tourism License 3121/080) · Updated · 1 min read

The short answer

Bardia's forests in the western Terai were once known mainly as hunting country, and old travel diaries describe large camps that moved on elephants. Today the focus is protection and watching wildlife: guided jungle walks, jeep drives and river trips on the Karnali, with tigers, elephants, rhinos and many birds in the habitat.

Knowing that background helps explain why the park feels wilder and quieter than Chitwan. Ask your naturalist about the area's history on a walk or river ride; local guides often have stories, but treat details as local lore unless you can check them.
