The short answer
Patna is the capital of Bihar, with rail, road and air links. From Patna, Raxaul is roughly 200 km by road, usually five to six hours, so most travellers cross at Raxaul-Birgunj for Kathmandu and Chitwan. Janakpur is also reachable via Muzaffarpur and Jaynagar.
Because Patna is a major city, it is a convenient pickup for group departures. Confirm timings so you reach the border in daylight.
