The short answer
Langtang National Park was the first Himalayan national park in Nepal, established in 1976, and covers the valley north of Kathmandu up to the Tibet border, including Gosaikunda and the Helambu ridge. It protects forests of rhododendron and oak, high meadows and rare animals including red pandas and Himalayan black bears.
You enter it on the Langtang trek, the Gosaikunda route and parts of Helambu, and pay a park fee at the entrance. For most visitors the park is the setting for a trek; wildlife sightings are possible but not guaranteed.
