The short answer
Dolpo is a high, dry region of Karnali often described as a hidden land, famous for Tibetan Buddhist villages, yak caravans and Shey Phoksundo National Park. Phoksundo Lake, turquoise and very deep, is its best-known sight. The upper districts are considered one of the best places in Nepal for snow leopards, though sightings are rare and need patience.
Trips here are long treks, with permits and an agency required in restricted areas. Nearer, easier options include Phoksundo Lake by trek from Dunai. Choose the season carefully, because passes close in winter.
