More Do and Don't, and What to Wear · What to wear

What should I wear for Kailash Mansarovar and Muktinath?

The short answer

Layers matter more than any single heavy item. For Muktinath, which is high and windy, carry a warm jacket, a windproof shell, a hat, gloves, warm socks and comfortable closed shoes, and dress modestly for the temple. For Kailash, the cold, wind and altitude are greater, so add thermals, a down jacket, waterproofs and good boots.

Wear sun cream and sunglasses in the thin air. Keep spare dry socks and a change of clothes in your day bag. Your operator will give a list for your route, which is worth following closely.
